Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Cultural Training

Course Description: The learning outcomes for this training are: 

•To understand the basics of how Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander culture works.

•To ensure that all staff are empowered to deliver respectful, responsive and culturally sensitive services to Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people, their families and communities.

Advanced Care Planning

Course Description: Advance Care Planning Australia provides online courses and face-to-face workshops nationally, specifically designed to support aged care workers, health professionals and the general public learn more about advance care planning.

Course Format: E-learning or face to face seminars

Course Duration: 30 minutes (11 optional modules of 30 minutes duration each) or 7.5 hours  1 day seminar

Aseptic Technique

Course Description: Aseptic technique aims to prevent pathogenic organisms, in sufficient quantity to cause infection, from being introduced to susceptible sites by hands, surfaces and equipment. (NHMRC Guidelines)

Aseptic technique protects patients during invasive clinical procedures by employing infection control measures that minimise, as far as practicably possible, the presence of pathogenic microorganisms

Course Format: Online Learning & quiz. 

Practical assessments can be achieved in the clinical setting -Intravenous cannulation, Indwelling catheter, Central Vascular Devices

ASSIST Training

ASSIST Training

This Competency Package has been adapted with the approval of the Australian Catholic University (ACU), from ACU's Quality in Acute Stroke Care Protocol.

All sections must be completed and you must achieve 100% to successfully pass and be deemed competent in using the ASSIST dysphagia screen. 

Once you have successfully passed, an annual refresher course is required to maintain competency.

Course Format: PowerPoint Education Package followed by completion of competency assessment.

Basic Life Support

Course Description: Basic Life Support (BLS) is the preservation or restoration of life by the establishment and maintenance of airway, breathing, circulation and related emergency care. 

This course has been developed in accordance with the Australian and New Zealand Committee on Resuscitation (ANZCOR) guidelines.

In order to successfully complete this course:

  • Download and read the 'Basic Life Support - Information booklet' provided in the link below.
  • Complete the multiple choice quiz, achieving a pass mark of 100%.
  • Attend a practical assessment with a qualified BLS trainer. Your assessment may be completed on orientation, otherwise book in for an assessment with your Clinical Area Educator or a qualified BLS trainer.

Please note: Upon completion of Advanced Life Support you will be  automatically be marked as completed for basic Life Support.

Course Duration: As required pre learning. 15 minute assessment
