Course Description: The course is designed for both medical and nursing staff and aims to address the theory and practice of procedural sedation for children in the Emergency Department (ED) and Child & Adolescent Unit (CAU) setting.
Course Format: Comprised of completion of Learning package, 80% pass mark of MCQs followed by completion of practical demonstration by Paediatric Liaison Nurse or Clinical Area Educator competent in Procedural sedation. There is no mandatory supervision demonstration of the application of Nitrous Oxide or Ketamine prior to a staff member being deemed safe and competent however it is strongly recommended that your first patient administration you have an accredited administer present.
Course Duration: Approximately 90 minutes overall
Course Frequency: there is no mandatory annual practical assessment required for administration of Nitrous oxide or ketamine however if it is identified that refreshing practice is required this can be facilitated at any time.
